This is the consolidated GS Map Pack posting.  Hopefully, it will answer all the questions you might have regarding the GS Map Packs.

NOTE: Please do not post to this topic.  This will allow the thread to only contain information about the map packs in a clear and concise manner.


Background
The GS Map Packs were developed to address several server issues we were experiencing.  Bunny figured out it was due to the number of physical map files we had on the server.  We tried to address the problem by removing maps, but then ran into the problem where a rotation would call for a map that was no longer on our system.

We finally decided to see what would happen if we combined several maps into a map pack.  The amazing part is that it all worked, allowing us to continue to provide you with the absolute best gaming experience without sacrificing the number of maps and game types for which our UO server is known.

There Can Be Only One!
When we release a map pack, there can be only one copy of a map in your UO folder.  Thus, for every map pack we release, we will also give you the names of the original PK3 files that are contained within the map pack.  You will have to remove the standalone PK3 files before you can play the maps that are contained in the map pack.

Here's why:  When the map on the server calls for a particular map, it tells your computer the name of the PK3 file in which the map is located.  If that PK3 file does not exist on your computer, then it will try to download the file from the autodownload server.

However, once the map pack is downloaded to your computer, CoD will choke if it finds two copies of the same map on your computer.  The error message will state that you an unpure client has been detected, and you will see the name of the file.

Deleting Standalone PK3 Files
The PK3 files live in your UO folder.  For most computers, this folder is "C:\Program Files\Call of Duty\UO".  Therefore, you must navigate to that folder and remove each indicated file.

Downloading the Map Packs
The map packs will be downloaded to your computer as part of normal game play, as long as you have downloading turned on in the CoD Multiplayer Options.  However, some of you are on slower connections and have asked for the ability to download the map packs at a time that is more convenient to you.  Therefore, subsequent posts to this topic will consists of information about each map pack.

You will be able to download each map pack using a browser.  Simply click on the link for each map pack and your browser will start the download process.

The map packs must be downloaded as PK3 files.  If you use Firefox as your browser, the files will be downloaded correctly.  However, Internet Explorer insists on changing the extension of the files from ".PK3" to ".ZIP".  Therefore, if you download the map packs using your browser, you absolutely must make sure that the filename ends with ".PK3".

If you mistakenly download a map pack as a ".ZIP" file, all you have to do is change the extension from ".ZIP" to ".PK3".  Do not try to unzip the file, because CoD expects to find the maps and related files in a PK3 file.

Once you have downloaded the map pack PK3 file, you will need to move it to your Call of Duty UO folder and then remove the standalone PK3 files.
